Our reading is derived from what is actually built in each district today, not from the code string — a code like R-15 means different things in different Connecticut towns. It is an estimate, and the regulations linked above are the authority.
Where these names come from
The plainfieldct.org planning/zoning index page was not usable directly; read the town's own regulations PDF at cms9files.revize.com/plainfieldct/Departments/Zoning/PZ Regulations 01012025.pdf. Edition: 'Adopted September 25, 1972 / Effective September 28, 1972 / As Amended through January 1, 2025' — current. District list is verbatim from Section 2.1 'Establishment of Districts' (Amended 5/05, CZ-2005-05), which prints a Symbol / Title table. One correction: that table renders the eleventh symbol as '1-2' (digit one), which is an OCR/typesetting artifact — the body of the regulations (Sections 9.35, 9.42, 3783, 4784) consistently uses I-2, so I-2 is returned. Added from elsewhere in the ordinance: P.D.D. (Section 11, floating district established within existing industrial/commercial parcels) and the Aquifer Protection Overlay District (Section 3, amended 12/11/90), which the text establishes as an overlay but assigns no letter symbol, so its name is used as the code. Unmatched assessor codes: 'C', 'IND-1', 'IND', 'CI' and 'I' are abbreviated/legacy assessor shorthand with no counterpart in the ordinance. IND-1 and I plausibly correspond to I-1, and C to the C-series, but that requires expanding an abbreviation rather than a hyphen/spacing difference, so no label is asserted.
