Our reading is derived from what is actually built in each district today, not from the code string — a code like R-15 means different things in different Connecticut towns. It is an estimate, and the regulations linked above are the authority.

Where these names come from

Read the Town of Groton Zoning Regulations PDF linked from the Planning & Development regulations page ('FINAL Tables Changed 7-15-26 Groton_Zoning_Regulations no buttons.pdf'): first adopted 6/21/1957, recodified and adopted 7/17/2019 effective 10/1/2019, revised 7/15/2026. District list is verbatim from Sec. 3.1-3.5; WRPD is from Sec. 6.4 ('The Water Resource Protection District (WRPD) is established as an overlay district'). Note NMDD (Nautilus Memorial Design District) was deleted effective 1/15/2020 and R-MI was added effective 7/15/2025. Unmatched assessor codes R, R8, R-20, R-40, R51, R52, RV, FC and WBR appear nowhere in these regulations (verified by full-text search) - the Town of Groton contains the separately incorporated City of Groton and the Groton Long Point Association, which have their own zoning ordinances, and these codes are also consistent with pre-2019 legacy town codes; I could not attribute them from the ordinance at the given URL.
