Our reading is derived from what is actually built in each district today, not from the code string — a code like R-15 means different things in different Connecticut towns. It is an estimate, and the regulations linked above are the authority.
Where these names come from
Read the town's current PDF: "Branford Zoning Regulations", posted as "Effective 08142026" (https://www.branford-ct.gov/DocumentCenter/View/2395), page footers dated 12.1.2025. District list taken from Section 1.5 Zoning Districts (base/overlay/floating table) plus Sections 4.9, 5.8, 5.9 and 5.10, which define four districts not shown in the 1.5 table (BL-HR, SCVD, PAH, Main Streets Overlay). Section 5.10 gives no abbreviation for the Main Streets Overlay District, so its full name is used as the code. Assessor data carries both hyphenated and unhyphenated residential forms (R1/R-1, R2/R-2, R3/R-3, R4/R-4, R5/R-5); these are the same districts and are returned once under the ordinance's hyphenated spelling. The codes A, A1, A2, A3, AA1, B, SB2 and R4C appear nowhere in the current regulations - they are legacy district codes predating the 2011 rewrite and were verified absent from the full text.
