Our reading is derived from what is actually built in each district today, not from the code string — a code like R-15 means different things in different Connecticut towns. It is an estimate, and the regulations linked above are the authority.
Where these names come from
ecode360.com/9046011 is behind Cloudflare and could not be fetched, so I read the town's own current PDF of the Zoning Regulations (effective 06/16/2007, as amended effective 07/01/2026, 242 pp.) and the official Zoning Map dated 03/01/23. Section 5.4 of Article 5 (Special Zones) is 'APARTMENT ZONE', and 'Apartment Zone' appears as a distinct district in the zoning map legend. The ordinance text spells the district out in words rather than using an abbreviation; 'APT' is the town's map/GIS shorthand, and the Apartment Zone is the only New Canaan district that abbreviation can denote (the other residential zones are the acreage Residence zones, A and B Residence, Multi-Family, and Pedestrian Oriented Multi-Family). Not superseded - this is the current code.
