Our reading is derived from what is actually built in each district today, not from the code string — a code like R-15 means different things in different Connecticut towns. It is an estimate, and the regulations linked above are the authority.
Where these names come from
Both districts still exist today; the first pass most likely missed them because the current regulations (effective 7/1/2026, the reformatted graphic-style code on southingtonct.gov) never restate the long district names — they only print the symbols in the use/dimension tables (R-80, R-40, R-20/25, R-12, R-12L, R-O, R-HD, CB, B, BOZ, I-1, I-2, plus special zones). The current code also spells the office district 'R-O' rather than 'RO'; I return the code string exactly as given. The official names come from the earlier edition's Sec. 1-02 Zone Districts list, which reads 'R-12 Residential Zone' and 'RO Residential-Office Zone' (Sec. 3-05 heading: 'Residential Office Zone (RO)'). Current regs still refer to 'the R-12 Residential Zone' (e.g. Sec. 4.F.3). Note that Southington groups R-O with its RESIDENTIAL zones (Section 1 use tables); I categorized it mixed_use because it is a residence-and-office district, so treat it as a residential zone that also permits offices. Neither code is superseded.
